Do 1 – Play with your students

Select a game from the “GAMES FOR TRANSVERSAL SKILLS DEVELOPMENT – COMPREHENSIVE TOOLBOOK FOR TEACHERS”, which contains 50 games and was developed by the project partners. Play the selected game with your students over the next two weeks.

You decide on the selection criteria. Choose a game that best suits the age characteristics of the children you teach, as well as the teaching practices, customs, and culture of your institution. If possible, choose a game you can participate in as well. If you play the game as well, pay attention to the role model you provide through your own behavior regarding the primary and secondary transversal skill being developed. Make sure your own behavior reflects what you expect from the students and refer to the section in the toolbox called “What do we want to achieve in terms of developing the primary skill (in terms of students’ knowledge and/or behavior)?” for that particular game. Don’t let the children win.

  • Read the detailed description of the game before playing. Pay special attention to the “Tips and Tricks” and Debriefing sections.
  • Be prepared to discuss all the suggested reflective questions with the students.  Record the students’ answers after the discussion.
  • Observe the children’s behavior in relation to the section titled “What do we want to achieve in terms of developing the primary skill (regarding the students’ knowledge and/or behavior)?” as well as the descriptions related to the “Lifelong Kindergarten” approach.
  • Based on your observations, complete the nine-point table for the “Lifelong Kindergarten” approach regarding the children’s behavior and emotional expressions.

Immediately after the game, take notes on your experiences so that you can share your classroom experiences with the selected game at the online Teach-Meet.
