STAGE 1 – Preparation and Warm-up

Duration: 15 minutes

SPIRIT Skills:

  • Curiosity, sense of wonder and openness

Brief Description:

Preparation phase: forming groups and providing instructions

  • Forming teams
  • Warm-up and motivation: group discussion in the classroom
  • Distributing task sheets

How does this develop particular SPIRIT skills

Forming teams and having a group discussion about the tasks helps the children prepare for unexpected situations and adapt to changing circumstances. During the warm-up, students’ resilience is also strengthened, as they understand that by supporting each other, they can more easily solve new and challenging tasks together. Distributing the task sheets provides a structured framework that supports independent and disciplined work.

What do we want to achieve regarding SPIRIT skill development (student understanding and/or behaviour)?

The activity aims to enable students to respond flexibly to unexpected situations and effectively adapt to changing circumstances. It is important that they learn how to face challenges through collaboration and mutual support, thereby strengthening their resilience. Structured frameworks, such as using task sheets, promote independent and disciplined work, contributing to the development of students’ self-confidence and perseverance. As a result, students not only improve their skills but also develop a positive attitude toward problem-solving and teamwork.

Tips and Tricks for dealing with stage challenges

Ways to form groups:

  • Random: Code sheets are placed in sealed envelopes, and each participant draws one. The colour of the code sheet determines which team they join. In this case, we cannot influence the composition of the teams, which may cause difficulties during collaboration.
  • Directed: We distribute the code sheets by name.
  • For each station, students from higher grades can be selected to explain the tasks and assist the teams. It is important that the helpers pay attention to when intervention is needed and when it is better to let the teams solve problems independently.
  • It is advisable to discuss the basic rules of cooperation with the groups, such as attentive listening and supporting each other.
